What is an adjective? जो शब्द कर्ता या कर्म की विशेषता बताते हैं, उन्हें विशेषण कहते हैं। Words which describe a noun or pronoun. They are also called ‘describing words’. For example – tall, fat, red, black, big, tiny, weak, intelligent, affectionate, strict. An adjective can accompany the subject or object and it can also be used on it’s own in a sentence.For example – “He is a good student.” “This student is good.”In the second sentence, ‘good’ is used as an adjective and an obect both.

When and how to use the three degrees of comparison – Positive degree is used to describe the quality of a person, place or thing (जब किसी एक व्यक्ति या वस्तु का गुण या विशेषता बतानी हो). Example – राधा बुद्धिमान और समझदार है। Radha is intelligent and wise.

Comparative degree is used when we want to compare two persons, places or things (जब किसी दो व्यक्तियों या वस्तुओं में तुलना करनी हो). Example – हरी रवि से उम्र में बड़ा है। Hari is older than Ravi.
The word ‘than’ is used with the comparative degree of the adjective.

Superlative degree is used when we want to describe the quality of a particular person, place or thing out of many similar ones. (जब बहुत लोगों, स्थानों या वस्तुओं में से किसी एक की विशेषता बतानी हो) Example -माउंट एवेरस्ट विश्व की सबसे ऊँची छोटी है। Mount Everest is the highest peak in the world.
