THE COASTAL PLAINS

The Coastal Plains are characterized by an area of flat low lying land that is situated adjacent to a water body — either A sea or an Ocean.

The Coastal Plains lie to the West and the East of the Western and the Eastern Ghats.

The Western and the Eastern Coastal Plains meet at CAPE COMORIN, the Southern most tip of the Indian Mainland.

The Coastal Plains have limited vegetation.

It lies between the Eastern Ghats and the Bay of Bengal.

Its extends from the Tamil Nadu in the South to West Bengal in the North.

The Eastern Coastal Plains with many large fertile Deltas is much broader than the Western Coastal Plain.

THE EASTERN COASTAL PLAINS

The Northern part of the Plain is called the Northern Circars.

The Southern part is called the Coromandel Coast.

The Western Coastal Plains Are located in the West of India between the Western Ghats and the Arabian Sea.

They are characterised by numerous backwaters and rivers that flow into the region.

These rivers form estuaries that are found in the western coastal plains of India.

THE WESTERN COASTAL PLAINS

The northern part is called the Konkan Coast.

The southern part is called the Malabar Coast.

ISLANDS

PORT BLAIR  IS THE CAPITAL OF  ANDAMAN GROUP OF ISLANDS

CAR NICOBAR IS THE CAPITAL OF  NICOBAR GROUP OF ISLANDS

KAVARATTI IS THE CAPITAL OF  LAKSHWADWEEP GROUP OF ISLANDS
